“CRACOVIA DANZA” COURT BALLET

“Cracovia Danza” is the only professional court and historical dance group in Poland. At the same time it operates as a Municipal Institution of Culture. Its dance repertoire comprises dances and choreographies from the Middle Ages to the present day.

The “Cracovia Danza” Court Ballet (formerly “Ardente Sole”) was established by Romana Agnel, dancer, choreographer and court dance specialist educated in Paris in the “Le Bal Paré” and “Théâtre Baroque de France” ensembles.

The choreographies and historical dance arrangements presented within the ensemble’s performances are reconstructed on the basis of treatises written by dance masters as well as created today by contemporary choreographers inspired by early dance iconography.

The Cracovia Danza Court Ballet appears in ballet performances in Poland and abroad. It cooperates with diverse cultural institutions all over Poland (the Warsaw Chamber Opera, the Royal Castle in Warsaw, the Historical Museum of the City of Krakow, amongst others).

Cracovia Danza makes recordings and records programmes for Polish and foreign TV stations, as well as participates in various prestigious dance and music festivals all over the world.

The unique character of the group, the high artistic level of its performances, the expertly educated, professional dancers and the meticulously reconstructed historical costumes all lend themselves perfectly to representing both Polish and European culture and the art of dance.

In August 2000 Ardente Sole was host to (and performer at) the world’s first “Court Dance Festival” in Krakow, which since then has become a cyclical event.
