In this ambitious production of the tragic love story between Dido, Queen of Carthage and the Trojan refugee Aeneas audiences are in for a visual treat. The mythology of Ancient Greece provides inspiration for modern costumes and video projections. The music and visuals are accompanied by dance, drama and set design in this baroque opera by Henry Purcell and Nahum Tate.

In this performance, it is the deepest and most heartfelt emotions that are central: the opera begins with the shipwrecked Aeneas and his crew in Carthage, where Dido reigns as queen. When Dido and the Trojan hero fall in love, it spells not only their own happiness but also a long-awaited peace between Troy and Carthage. But when a jealous sorceress entices Aenaes to leave Dido under the pretext that Troy is about to go under, Dido is left with nothing but loneliness and death.
